Subject:Genetics and environment

My mother passed away from kidney cancer 4 years ago. Last year, my nannie also passed away from kidney cancer. I want to know if there is any genetic or environmental factors that can relate this two episodes and if there is anything you recommend me to do.
Thanks

Subject:Genetics and environment

Obesity, high blood pressure and cigarette smoking have been linked to an increased risk of developing kidney cancer. Otherwise, there is no known strong correlation between environmental factors and kidney cancer. If your mother was over 50 when she was diagnosed with kidney cancer, it is unlikely there is a strong genetic component to her cancer, and if the family history is otherwise negative for kidney cancer, it is unlikely that we are dealing with a genetic syndrome.

If all of these factors are negative, I would recommend routine age appropriate health evaluations and screening procedures.
