Subject:Bladder Cancer

My bladder was removed at MDA and they built me a new one out of an old piece of gut in Jan. 1999. Since then I have urinated (stinking) mucus with my urine every 2:00 hours 24/7. I do have a "strong" flow. I can hold my urine during the day; for at least 2:00 hours when I'm awake, but I set my alarm clock so I can get up and urinate every 2:00 hours all night; otherwise, my "Depends" will overflow. A doctor in Oklahoma has checked me bi-annually since the operation. He "promoted" me to a 9 month check this time. A urologist in OK had a MRI taken of my new bladder last year. He said it was beautiful.

I would like to know; is there any indication of my cancer returning that I should or could be watching for personally.
I am resigned to the mucus, and I don't "visit" anyone.

Could you advise the patient that he should be assured that he has gone 5 years without a recurrence. He should eat a balanced healthy diet, avoid cigarette smoking. If he notices blood in his urine he should notify his physician. He should have a yearly check with a chest xray, CBC electrolytes, liver function tests, Vit B12 and a BUN and Creatinine. A cytology or a urovision test could be done annually as well.
