Subject:Neo bladder

I had a cystectomy with reconstruction on April 29. I still feel some tightness in my abdominal and pubic area. Is this normal?
I am recuperating nicely. Urination has been extended from every 2 hours during the day to 4 hours in 4 weeks, There is still some leakage though.
I would love to chat with someone has has gone through my procedure and discuss. Also am willing to talk to anyone who is considering the possibility of having it done.

Some amount of 'tension' in the abdominal musculature would be normal after any major abdominal surgery. This can take anywhere from 6-8 weeks to resolve. From your message, it seems that you had a continent urinary diversion - a 'neobladder'. The fact that you are able to go 4 hours in between urination is good progress at this time. Urinary incontinence is to be expected but will improve over time especially if you are exercising your sphincter muscles. Do remember, however, that this advice is a generalization and the best person to assess you this soon after surgery is your own surgeon.
