I am a Bladder Cancer patient at MD Anderson and have been treated at MDA for 5 years. For the first 4 1/2 years I was scoped every 90 days and recently the schedule was altered so that now I am scheduled every 6 months. Is that because I have had no recurrence or becuase of insurance carriers constraints to reduce the expenses of monitoring?

Surveillance guidelines for bladder cancer recommend cystoscopy every 3 months to cystoscopy every 12-24 months, depending on risk factors. The longer a patient goes without recurrence, the lower the risk and hence, less frequent monitoring required.
