Hi, I have been a patient of Dr. Dinney for over a year. I consider myself very fortunate to be able to be treated by this Dr. and center. So far the tumors have been lasered. My bladder cancer was caught early and is a low-grade transitional cell carcinoma, but I still become extremely anxious before every appointment. I am aware of high recurrence with this type of cancer. So, will recurrence mean that one day I will have to make the decision on possible removal of my bladder or can it be that laser will always take care of it? Should I prepare myself with information on my options at this point? Any info will be appreciated. Also I have never been a tobacco user and always included vegetables and fruits in my diet. Never been over weight. Any supplements to consider besides a good diet with less meat? Thanks so much.
You should not be unduly concerned that you will eventually lose your bladder because in fact the progression rate for individuals with low grade disease is less than 5-10%. You may suffer an occasional recurrence but that should be able to be treated by local means, sometimes with the instillation of intravesical treatment. There is no strong data regarding the beneficial impact of supplements.
