Subject:Diet and Surgery

I am currently experiencing recurrence, and I am scheduled for surgery in early February. While I do regularly exercise, my current focus is getting my body in peak physical condition in order to facilitate a good recovery from surgery. To this end, are there diet guidelines that can help facilitate a good recovery from surgery?

A nutritionally balanced diet is the best diet to prepare yourself for surgery. This means 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables, preferably lots of different colors, good sources of protein from fish, meats, beans, eggs, soy or dairy, whole grain breads and cereals and limited empty calorie foods. If you are eating a balanced diet there is no need for a multiple vitamin although it is not contraindicated. Keeping the body in good physical condition through exercise and diet before surgery will make the recovery faster and easier.
