Maria Elena Martinez Named Distinguished Alumnus for 2010

Dr. Elena Martinez is currently Professor of Epidemiology at the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health and holds the Richard H. Hollen Professor of Cancer Prevention from the American Cancer Society at the Arizona Cancer Center.  She co-directs the Cancer Prevention and Control Program and is also co-Director of the Cancer Health Disparities Institute at the Arizona Cancer Center. 

Her research interests are in improving the understanding of the occurrence of cancer and its etiologic factors, including diet and other lifestyle factors as well as their interaction with genetic factors.  More recently, her research has focused in the understanding of breast cancer in Hispanic/Latina women through the conduct of a US-Mexico binational study of breast cancer.

On Thursday, November 11, Dr. Martinez will be recognized as the Distinguished Alumnus for 2010 during the Faculty Honors Convocation.  She will deliver the Distinguished Alumnus Lecture at Noon in the Hickey Auditorium.
