Degree & Certificate Programs

The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center School of Health Sciences offers degree and/or certificate programs in the following areas of study:

Bachelor of Science Degree: Academic Requirements

Admission

Applicants to any of the School of Health Sciences programs leading to the Bachelor of Science degree must satisfy several requirements for admission:

Prerequisite courses - All prerequisite courses must be acceptable as credit for a baccalaureate degree, and required science courses must be lecture and laboratory courses acceptable toward degrees by majors in those fields of study and cannot be survey courses.

GPA - A minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale both overall and in science and mathematics courses is required in all previous college work.

Semester credit hours - A minimum of 90 semester credit hours of which 45 general education “core” semester credit hours must be transferred to UTMDACC from an accredited college or university with acceptable transferability of credit.

To enroll as a senior, credit is required in the following foundation courses:

(may include 3 hours of Texas History)*

*Up to 6 hours may be obtained from advanced standing examinations such as CLEP or its equivalent

Graduation

A curriculum leading to a baccalaureate degree at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center School of Health Sciences is required to contain a minimum of 130 semester credit hours. All School of Health Sciences degree plans require successful completion of 40 or more semester credit hours. Students must be actively enrolled in a School of Health Sciences course during the semester they graduate.

Accreditation

Each School of Health Sciences degree and/or certificate program is accredited or approved by one of the following agencies:

  • National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS)

  • Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT)

  • American Association of Medical Dosimetrists (AAMD)

  • Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)
