Tobacco Use Prevention and Cessation Training
The Health Care TEAM Approach to Cancer Prevention (Project TEAM) invites you to enhance your tobacco use prevention and cessation knowledge with this on-line resource. This website was created to supplement the three-hour tobacco cessation training, which was approved for continuing medical education credit. Recognized experts from inside The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, where the project was created, and from outside the institution have come together to create this adjunct to the training to help clinicians better counsel their patients on the health benefits of smoking prevention and cessation.
Project TEAM Training Objectives
This web-based training supplement aims to cover three main objectives:
- To improve communication skills with adolescents, adults and special populations so that tobacco prevention and cessation counseling effectiveness is enhanced.
- To introduce health professionals to the notion of using smoking status as a "vital sign" that is always evaluated in routine care as an indicator of basic health status.
- To identify current pharmacotherapy treatments and describe counseling methods for smoking prevention and cessation.
