Nicotine Dependence Across the Lifespan

The Texas Tobacco Outreach Education Program (TOEP) provides on-line, continuing medical education (CME) credits in ethics/professional responsibility to Texas physicians at no cost. Recognized experts from M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and from outside the institution have come together to create this tobacco prevention/cessation course to help physicians counsel their patients on the benefits of smoking prevention and cessation.

Who is the target audience?

Texas physicians seeking on-line CME credits, health care professionals seeking the most current data on tobacco use in Texas and the United States, or anyone interested in learning more about these important smoking related topics.

What are the program objectives?

This program is designed for health care providers. There are three objectives for the Nicotine Dependence Across the Lifespan web-based training:


Training Objectives
Discuss and describe tobacco prevention and cessation methods for youth, adolescents, adults, and special populations.

Discuss the use of smoking status as a "vital sign" for use in routine care by physicians and health care providers.

Identify current pharmacotherapy treatments and describe counseling methods for smoking prevention and cessation.


Length: Up to 5.0 CME hours are available to physicians.

Fee: Free to Texas physicians.
