Affiliation
Through our affiliation with The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and Baylor College of Medicine, we are able to
provide additional training opportunities. The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Division of Hematology, provides
both inpatient and ambulatory care services. They provide consultative services at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, as well as other
affiliated hospitals, such as Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital. Baylor College of Medicine and its affiliates also provide additional
training venues. The academic goal of each facility is to promote the understanding of a wide scope of hematological diseases. The
diagnosis and management of these diseases require a broad-based knowledge in bone marrow physiology and biochemistry, tumor cell
growth, hemostasis and thrombosis, red blood cell and hemoglobin molecular biology, and immunology. Research opportunities include
an interdepartmental program in vascular diseases, prostaglandin research, monocyte/macrophage physiology and biochemistry, clinical
and laboratory hyperthermia, cell differentiation, and platelet and endothelial cell function.
Accreditation
The Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program is accredited through the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
It is a private, professional organization responsible for the accreditation of over 7,800 residency education programs.
Accreditation offers assurance that a given residency/fellowship program and its sponsoring institutions meet an accepted set of
educational standards. If you would like to learn more about our accreditation, log onto www.acgme.org.
