Spirituality and Healing from a Baha'i Perspective

The "Twelve Moments of Meditation" August program will feature a presentation by Felora Derakhshani from the Baha'i tradition. Emphasizing the unification of humanity and the building of a peaceful, global society, Baha'i principles include, among others, the recognition of the unity and relativity of religious truth and the responsibility of each person to independently search for truth http://www.austinbahai.org/.


A native of Iran, Felora Derakhshani was educated in Oxford, England, and is the founder and President of ACT Women (Advancing Community Through Women: http://www.actwomen.com), whose mission is to educate, encourage, and empower women to become agents of change. An electromechanical engineer by training, she is the owner of Felora Image Consulting Company, and currently serves on the Board of Austin Area Interreligious Ministries (AAIM).

Community-Wide Grief Groups Begin

Lifeline Chaplaincy, Inc. announces the start in August of two, separate community wide grief support groups. The groups will meet just outside of the Texas Medical Center in the Museuin District at Lifeline's main location at

1415 Southmore, Houston, TX 77004-5845.
Parking is free and gated.

The daytime group, facilitated by Virgil Fry, D.Min., will meet on Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for eight consecutive weeks beginning on August 6, 2009 and ending on September 24, 2009.

The evening group will be led by Marilyn Ladin, LCSW-BCD (Social Work Psychotherapist TMHS Palliative Care Department) and Debra Sivesind, MSN, PMHCNS-BC (Nurse Psychotherapist, The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Department of Palliative and Rehabilitative Medicine). It will meet on Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. beginning on August 6, 2009 and ending on September 24,2009.
