| Subject: | National Pastoral Care Week in Review |
Many activities and unique events made this year's National Pastoral Care Week a great success. I was particulary impressed by the responses to the Worship Service that highlighted the use of humor in pastoral care, and by the guest lecturer, Dr. Farr Curlin, who advocated for a moral discourse approach that doctors can use when patients or themselves broach the topic of religion in the context of the health care visit. By stressing that wisdom, respect, and candor can be appropriate and needed to help balance our society's expectaions about competence and neutrality in medical care, Dr. Curlin opened a much - needed dialogue.
