Subject:Recovering after a full Nephrectomy

My boyrfriend will be having a full Nephrectomy including removal of the adrenal gland and surrounding lymph nodes with a front incision going from the sterum all the way around the belly button next week at MD Anderson.  We are wondering what different people's experience with recovery has been.  Can you take the stairs after surgery?  How long before you were able to drive?  Thank you in advance for sharing your experiences.

Subject:Recovering after a full Nephrectomy

Hello Anonymous,

I hope your boyfriend's surgery went well.  Since every person's body is different, it may be a good idea to speak with your boyfriend's medical team about post-surgery activity recommendations.  To hear how others have fared, he can contact Anderson Network (713-792-2553) to be matched with another MD Anderson patient who has survived similar surgery.  Take good care and keep in touch!
