I'm wondering if some one could help me and tell me how much can cost to get Radiation treatment if one does not have insurance. My father had prostate cancer surgery an 2006. After the surgery he had good PSA reading every 3 months. However his last reading on october 2008 was 0.09 in one of the laboratorys and 2.4 in the other laboratory. His doctor said that this means a recurrence of the cancer and he wants him to have external radiation, my dad leaves in another country, and he wants to come to US to get his radiation treatment. Anyone has any information on this situation wich can be very helpfull to me.
I also had surgery in 2003 but the PSA rose to 0.03 and my urologist told me that this indicated a recurrence and recommended external beam radiation (40 treatments - 5 days per week for 8 weeks). The cost of treatment in a fine Houston, Tx. facility is $40,000.00. Since I am covered by Medicare and have AARP supplemental health insurance, I am covered. However, if I did not have the coverage I do, the cost would be around $40,000. Good luck to you.
Thank you for visiting the message board. You have a lot of important questions. However, It is difficult to provide you with specific information that you are requesting without additonal information. The first step would be to contact our International center, as your father lives out of the country. Reprentatives will be able to guide you through the referral process, http://www.mdanderson.org/departments/IPC/. You may also view the Radiation Oncology web page for additional information http://www.mdanderson.org/departments/radiation/. I hope these resources are helpful.
