My name is David, I am 75 years old and was diagnosed with Invasive T1 bladder cancer last year at this time. In the past year I have undergone 1 course of BCG and 1 course of Mytomycin-C, but the cancer cells keep growing back. I have also been taking essiac, gone on a high alkaline diet and have done other forms of holistic and spiritual healing, but to no avail.
My doctor is recommending that I have my bladder removed and I am leaning this way. I would like to contact other bladder cancer patients who have had their bladder removed so that I can learn more about the experience and results from different perspectives.
If you or someone you know as had their bladder removed, I would appreciate you responding to this posting..
Thanks so much and God bless
David

David,
You might try Anderson Network at 1-800-345-6324. They can connect you to bladder cancer survivors who are willing to speak to patients about their own experience. A couple of other resources that might interest you are the M.D. Anderson Bladder Support Team and Bladder Cancer Web Support. The links are provided below:

Thank you David for posting the question and Tina for providing options for more info.
I am 52 male and diagnosed with CIS in the innermost bladder layer. It is all over the inner layer but has yet to spread. My Dr is recommending a cysectomy so I'm doing the research along with david.

David,
My name is Frances and my father has just been diagnosed with a bladder cancer that sounds similar to yours. We are just trying to get some understanding about next steps. He is 84 years old and has a fairly large T1, noninvasive but high grade tumor. A first resection surgery last week did not get it all, and he is going to have a second in a couple of weeks. He really wants to save his bladder. Did you also have that surgery? Where did you have the treatments you outlined? Have you seen an oncologist in addition to a urologist? How has the doctor determined that the cancer cells are returning? I hope these are appropriate and not offensive questions - my parents aren't "online" and this is my first time using a blog!
Thanks for your help.

Hi Frances-
Sorry about your father's bladder cancer diagnosis. A good resource for talking to bladder cancer survivors who are similar to your father is Anderson Network. Depending on where your father lives, the survivor can speak with him by phone or in person. Anderson Network can be reached at: 800-345-6324 or visit:

Hope this is helpful!
