I am a year and a half past my surgery (radical nephrectomy for contained RCC) and am concerned about whether there is a proper diet to be followed when you have only one kidney. I work out 6 days a week alternating cardio & weights and want to make sure I am doing everything nutritionally to eat properly as another way to keep the cancer away. My 6cm tumor had not broken through the kidney and I had a clear CT last November. There is not much out there to help me know what is best as far as nutrition.
There are a couple of options you have for getting more information about what your diet should look like. The first option would be to talk to your physician here and they will be able to provide you some general guidelines. You primary care phsysician in your community would also be a good resource and could help answer some of these questions. There is also the askMDAnderson help line which can direct you to some reliable information for assistance as well (1-877-MDA-6789). Hope this helps!
