I am a very atheltic 39 year old person that was recently diagnosed with a renal mass in my right kidney. I was diagnose 5-4-2009 with a CT scan and on 5-7-09 an MRI. I looks seems that it is all contained but a possible small intrusion into the renal vein. My question is once MD Anderson recives my test info, (Friday 8th) how long will it be until I have an appointment (roughly)? I am by nature pretty impatient and I would like to get started on problem as soon as possible.
Thanks to all poster's on this site. It has definately answered some questions for me prior to actually meeting with MDA.
God Bless!

Dimages68,
So glad your appointment is set! One of my colleagues will meet with you to help with any concerns/anxiety that you are experiencing at your first visit if you ask to see a social worker. Additionally, please feel free to email me at lkwalther@mdanderson.org.
Best Regards,

My appointment was May 25th and I had a radical nephrectomy on my right kidney on May 27th. Dr Wood was great at explaining the procedure and everything was as explained. I was in the hospital for 6 days and the care was 1st class. My tumor was contained inside my kidney and was 12.5 cm and was of a fairly aggressive nature.
My 6 week check up in July indicated all clear and my prognosis is good. After 2 years pass my prognosis will be much better.
I am back to normal for the most part with all activities (martial arts, coaching youth football and just keeping up with my sons). My experience at MDA was great (under the circumstances) and I would recommend seeking the best care provider, which I did.
My next appointment is Nov 4 and I will try to keep this post updated.
Have a glorious day!

I just returned yesterday from my appointment on Nov 4th 2009. Blood work, Ct scans and chest x rays all indications are still all clear.
Also a special thanks to Angel Flights and Grace Flights in making my trip much more manageable finacially. The pilots were all 1st class and very professional. I will be headed back in March 2010 and hope to use the great service again then.

Great news! Thanks for letting us know.
Yes, Grace Flight and Angel Flight are very good resources to have in you back pocket. Or front pocket. And of course its always good to have a Plan B when using them in case they need to cancel the flight at the last moment due to inclement weather.
Stay in touch,

I had another all clear CT and they decided to move me from 4 month to 6 month check ups. Everything is going very well right now and hope for more of the same news in January.
I normally fly Grace Flights but this trip Houston had strong storms and more in the forecast so we had to fall back on our backup plan. Yuk 775 miles one way to drive. It sure makes me even more thankfull when the Grace Flights are able to make the trip happen.
Have a great day!

My last appointment was 8-03-11 with the same great continued results. I am excercising more than ever have in my life, and went from 240 lbs to 209 lbs in 2011. I feel great and hope the same results continue on my next appointment April 3, 2012. Have a great New Year and God Bless!

My Appointment April 9th and 10th went pretty well again. No evidence of metastatic disease. A couple lyph nodes are enlarged so my check up will go back to 6 months to monitor. All in all I still feel great and Dr Wood does not seem greatly concerned about the change and stated many possible reasons for the change.
God Bless!
